Well, by the end of 2012 we have seen some real pictures of
India, and it is sure in coming years we will be seeing such in large scale and
on more zoom in format. As for middle class, the most vibrant one, India has
become what media shows. They believe, think and act according to media. From a
zoom out picture it is clear that media is manipulating the mass (the middle
class only) on every step, whether it about sociopolitical hue and cry, social
awareness, religious superstitions or even making personal choices. Media has
something to offer to all (again for middle class only) on every walk of like.
Some time it seems they have enslaved a major chunk of sensitive population and
keep on harnessing their self from the misery of succumbed population.
It has been mentioned that the manipulable population is middle class only because upper,
rich wealthy people don’t give damn to what media says or shows as long as media
does not infiltrate into their territory, on the other hand media doesn’t give
damn about how poor, downtrodden, slavelike population( though they are the largest chunk
of population) survive. Neo-democracy slogan is now appearing in the form of “By
the upper class for the middle class”. Though everyone knows be it upper or
middle class that his survival depends on the continuous, rigorous and untired
labor of poor class yet looking at the abundance of such population they don’t
care or mind about substitute.
In this age of globalization
the institutional success (though its
meaning is exclusive, came with globalization and defined by very few) depends
largely on how the sensitive population respond in different conditions. So the
role of media is crucial for the institutional
success as they are the manipulator of that population response. Now as
many things are unraveling so fast in India, it seems this was sensed by the
founding fathers of the constitution hence they had given media the status of
fourth pillar of constitution along with Legislature,. Executive & Judiciary. But unfortunately they had
mistaken in sensing the selfish instinct of human beings. They never thought
the country that has been freed after so much blood and sweat would be grilled again
by their one selfish people. Some rich wealthy people have taken dais and
addressing the nation through media about their little achievement done in the
light but hiding the iniquitous deeds performed in the dark. As on routine process
legislation and executives get reluctant in bothering about their duties;
joining the league media too has accepted similar periodic process.
Every news has
different aspect and how one grasps it depends on the perspective of the
viewer; but the perspective is never been left independent by media for the viewer
because all the time news comes from media’s perspective. So the very idea of news gets defeated by the
media who are the medium of the news. One hand it seems media is working for
big corporate houses in the form of molding a consumerist mindset for their
business interest, on the other hand, it is evident that media keep sensitive
population in delusion by sensitizing irrelevant stories to save some powerful
politicians.
Being optimistic and searching in some corner we do find few
sparkles to keep the ray of hope alive. But with these little sparkles the huge
crying face of needy population can’t be seen. And in so much noise those muted
plead can’t be made heard. I hope in coming years these few sparkles grow to
form a flame that can illuminate the darkest corners of the nation.
Very forceful and exploring article to start with. The author's main contention that how media, particularly news media is becoming a tool of manipulation in the hands of powerful and how the gullible masses are failing to ask relevant questions that may expose the contradictions, has been clearly reflected upon. I am deeply touched by the author's concern and wish him luck for his future writings to come. All the best. Keep writing :)
